After a few seconds I get a grey apple logo and a loading bar below. If I turn the computer on, it will make the wakeup noise and present a grey screen. ![]() This is the second time this has happened - last time I restored from a backup, but that's not working this time, and I'm worried this would still happen again. Is my Mac broken even though there are times when I've made progress? Please help!Ģ012 Mac Pro reaches grey loading screen then shuts down I have a mid 2012 Mac Pro running High Sierra. I've done the fsck -fy countless times from single user mode. I even tried using target disk mode hoping to run recovery from a MacBook Pro but still nothing. Am I missing anything? Every keyboard short I know and have looked up eventually results in the white screen. I then tried everything I knew to do: safe mode, recovery mode, PRAM, diagnostics, network recovery, hardware test (short and long), SMC reset, everything is unplugged except a keyboard and mouse, and have tried re-installing OS from a USB boot drive (worked once, but then the freeze happened again about 3 minutes into using). I tried to reboot the system numerous times and while the bar would get so far during the loading screen, it eventually dimmed and I would just see the white screen. Any responses are very much appreciated.Ģ011 Mac mini can’t get past the white screen on startup.then restarts. That was the only response I got out of it. I was only able to get it to chime after pressing OPTION+COMMAND+R+P. After the white screen, a flashing question mark folder symbol came up.Īll in all, the Mac is completely unresponsive. Now, whenever I try turning it on, the loud chime is there, but it still does not boot up completely - again, it stays at the gray Apple symbol with no loading bar whatsoever (not even an empty loading bar).Īnother note: I did take out every “peripheral” device (I think that’s what they’re called) and tried restarting. Still stuck on the gray Apple screen (which there’s never a loading bar, just a lone, gray Apple symbol). Eventually I found another thing to try: pressing down OPTION+COMMAND+R+P. I tried holding down the SHIFT button to start it in safe mode - a gray circle with a slash through it (□) popped up. So I researched, discovered the “white screen of death” and tried to resolve it based on what many sources say would fix a white screen. I noticed a tapping/clicking noise coming from it. ![]() However, yesterday I woke it up, was about to start working on it when suddenly the screen went white. I know, it’s ancient - but it has been working great for a long time. ![]()
