Laptop screen went black - can't find the cause/ solution! Hardware. So the image i want is done and ready, not using scripts or package in workflow just want to create an image to netboot.įollowed user guide and youtube videos they show the same except old version of DS as im using a newer version.Īnother person asked the question and like to know as i did not see an anwser if i want to clone a 10.7 image does my server need to be on 10.7? issue is that this is not a problem but to download osx server must have minimum of 10.8 that server supports.Īny help with DS is great or should i look at another type of software to do this we use DS at my school but i maintain with Casper and use OSX Server at home for my clients and i keep my old version images to deploy except i dont have 10.7 image. I have tried 3 different times also installed server from scratch on a macbook pro 2012 than my iMac 2015 and still fails at the end i have checked the logs and do not see the hiccup. Since OSX Server only works with same version OSX to create was thinking can i get Deploy Studio the new version to create an image of 10.7 - seems the reports say it can but when i mount the drive via thuderbolt and create an image in runtime it see it gave it a title and sees the repository and creating image except in 20 mins it fails when in 15 mins it should be done per se. I have used OSX Server quite awhile and it works, though this project i need to create a clone of a thick image of 10.7.5 for older macs but im using 10.11.x server on my iMac 5k. Would you let me know the steps how to create your workflow on the DS server? However, when I tried to create a workflow from the DS server with the "restore task", I don't see my image. I have created the Yosemite image with the DiskUtility and copied the image DMG to DeployStudio server like your suggest. Thanks for any help, the clients are running Mountain Lion so thought it would be about time to upgrade. Which I also wanted to ask, if the config will be saved if I install the newer version of OSX server? I have updated DS, created a new netboot image and installed all updates on the server without upgrading it to Yosemite, do you think this is my problem? does the server need to be running Yosemite to capture a Yosemite image? I read somewhere to capture Yosemite I need a Yosemite netboot image but wanted to ask here first before upgrading the server as it will mean paying for an upgrade to OSX Server 4. The server is running Mavericks and get a workflow aborted error about 3 mins into the capture with DeployStudio, Flash is still updated on 10.6.8 yet, but that I'm sure has it's days numbered.Īm looking at upgrading our 30 or so Mac's to Yosemite but am having problems capturing a Yosemite image with DeployStudio on our Mac mini server. Apple isn't going to orphan out 10.8 that soon are they ? I still love my 10.7.x MBP that is surgically attached to my hip, but I realize JAVA has already left me behind, but the average user doesn't even use JAVA unless you have special software that uses it. 10.10.x is a dog on anything less than the latest and 8 gig of ram. If you have other questions doing it the Disk Utility way don't be afraid to ask.Īnd while I'm on this rant my experience is that unless you have the "latest and greatest" hardware with 8 gig or ram WHY WHY WHY upgrade if you are already on 10.8.x or or even 10.9 and everything is running Peachy. By the way if you are doing a lot of imaging it pays BIG TIME to have DS on one box and the images on a different box. I never make my workstation images the "DS way." Make it easy on yourself and target boot the client onto another like computer with either a lightning cable or 800 to 800 Firewire cable and make your image with Disk Utility and then Scan the image for Restore with Disk Utility and you are py it to the server and make a workflow for it. We select the default NetBoot image that DS uses with either 10.6.x or 10.8.x or 10.10.x image depending on what we are trying to boot. My DS Server is a 5 plus year old Xserve running Server 10.6.8. I'm sorry guys but you make this a LOT harder than it actually is.
